Donations come in for local genealogy center

Volunteers Joyce Goree and Becky Hudson are all smiles with another anonymous $100 gift for the Polk County Genealogy Center. Since mid-December the Polk County Historical Association has received $1,100 to go towards this community project. The directors of the historical association are seeking to raise $15,000 to equip a center that will assist interested citizens desiring to learn more about their family connections.

As seen in the photo there are shelves that are open and need to be filled. These empty spaces are designated for local family histories. Plans are to provide access to these histories for the benefit of the community. Anyone interested in donating their family history should contact Becky Hudson, Joyce Goree or one of the directors of the Polk County Historical Association.

Genealogy is a popular hobby in the United States replacing gardening as the number one hobby. Interested contributors should contact either Becky Hudson at bmhudson@hotmail.com or Joyce Goree at 894-5312. Contributions can be mailed to: Polk County Historical Museum, PO Box 503, Columbus, NC 28722. Please make checks payable to Polk County Historical Association.
