The Polk County High School track and field program has been named as one of the 2A recipients of the North Carolina High School Athletic Association’s 2017 Commissioner’s Cup.
The NCHSAA awards the Commissioner’s Cup each year to teams who tackle a service project with the goal of helping their local community. Eight teams, two in each classification, are honored and receive a $1,000 stipend for their program.
Polk County’s entry centered around the Reindeer Games, the annual track meet that also serves as a food drive for Thermal Belt Outreach Ministry.
Head coach Alan Peoples received this year’s award during the NCHSAA annual meeting held Thursday in Chapel Hill.
