POLK COUNTY DISTRICT COURT RESULTS

In Polk County District Court on Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2017, with Judge Emily G. Cowan presiding, 117 cases were heard. Some cases were dismissed, continued or sent to superior court.

The following persons were convicted of a crime:

Elizabeth Avellaneda was convicted of failure to stop at a stop sign/flashing red light. Avellaneda was to pay court costs.

Tiffany Jack Cavender was convicted of second-degree trespassing. Cavender was to pay court costs.

Sabrina Jeanne Ford was convicted of operating a vehicle with improper equipment. Ford was to pay court costs.

Damonte Malik Hannon was convicted of failure to appear on misdemeanor. Hannon was sentenced to seven days in jail and court costs.

George Kaissa Ibrahim was convicted of level five driving while impaired. Ibrahim was sentenced to 12 months unsupervised probation, 24 hours of community service, a $100 fine and court costs.

Zachary S. Jernigan was convicted of simple assault. Jernigan was sentenced to 12 months supervised probation, 24 hours of community service and court costs.

Ashley Taylor Jones was convicted of simple possession of schedule II controlled substance and maintaining a vehicle/dwelling/place for a controlled substance. Jones was sentenced to 12 months supervised probation.

Starla Nicole Raines was convicted of conspiracy to obtain property under false pretenses. Raines was sentenced to 12 months supervised probation.

Ronald Bynum Reese Jr. was convicted of level five driving while impaired. Reese was sentenced to 12 months unsupervised probation, 24 hours of community service, a $100 fine and court costs.

Nathan Lake Turnage was convicted of level five driving while impaired. Turnage was sentenced to 12 months unsupervised probation and court costs.

POLK COUNTY ARRESTS JAN. 15-21

Jan.18

John Walters, 46, was arrested and charged with simple possession of schedule II controlled substance, possession of schedule II control substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. Walters was given a $7,000 bond.

Brandon Vick, 35, was arrested and charged with possession of schedule II controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. Vick was given a $6,500 bond.

Sabrina Watson, 25, was arrested and charged with possession of schedule II controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. Watson was given a $6,500 bond.

Jan. 19

Christopher Trumann, 39, was arrested and charged with assault by strangulation. Trumann was given a $10,000 bond.

DEPARTMENT REPORT

During the month of December 2016, the Columbus Fire Department answered 95 calls for service. Calls included:

55 medical calls

4 fire alarms

2 structure fires

4 brush fires

1 trash/rubbish fire

1 landing zone

2 motor vehicle accidents with injuries

8 motor vehicle accidents without injuries

1 stranded motorist

5 calls for public service

3 smoke complaints

1 structure fire in the Tryon Fire service area

1 structure fire in the Saluda Fire service area

1 call for public service in the Saluda Fire service area

1 rescue call in the Green Creek Fire service area

1 brush fire in the Green Creek Fire service area

1 smoke complaint in the Green Creek Fire service area

1 structure fire in the Mill Spring Fire service area

1 smoke complaint in the Mill Spring Fire service area

1 structure fire in the Sunny View Fire service area

COLUMBUS POLICE
DEPARTMENT REPORT

During the month of December 2016, the Columbus Police Department answered 652 calls for service. There were:

6 felony arrests

8 misdemeanor arrests

2 driving while impaired arrests

11 fugitives arrests

73 speeding citations

16 no operator’s license

2 driving while license revoked

11 drug charges

4 uninsured motorists

13 careless and reckless driving

22 registration violations

1 open container

Officers completed:

84 residence checks

5,691 business checks

167 church checks

284 community patrols

40 training hours

assisted other departments 12 times
