The Polk County Sheriff’s Office said Lt. Jerad McFalls attempted to stop a car in the area of South Melvin Hill Road around 8:15 p.m. Friday. The vehicle failed to stop and continued on at low speeds for more than a mile before coming to a stop, according to sheriff reports.

Once Hess came to a stop, he fled into the woods on foot, the sheriff’s office said. McFalls could not pursue Hess because the vehicle had five other occupants, none of whom were charged, according to the sheriff’s office.

The sheriff’s office said they believe Hess fled because he has outstanding warrants out of Spartanburg County.

Hess, once located, will be charged in Polk County with failure to stop for an officer.

Anyone with information regarding Hess’ whereabouts is urged to contact the Polk County Sheriff’s Office at 828-894-3001.
