Sylvia Youngers joined the Steps to HOPE Board of Directors earlier this year. Due to her understanding of the terrible effects of domestic violence on families, and the compassion she feels towards victims, she believes strongly in Steps to HOPE’s mission and wanted to get involved.
Sylvia lives in Tryon and knows the importance of family connections. She has been married to her husband, Hugh, for 35 years and they have five children and seven grandchildren who live all around the country, some as far away as Alaska.
Before coming to this area, Sylvia did promotional work, displays, and special events planning for Cosmair, Inc. New York and worked in the PX on the Navy base in Jacksonville, Fla.
Since moving to Polk County, she has helped with fundraising for other community organizations such as Hospice and the Tryon Hounds. She is very artistic and enjoys sewing, decorating, painting and floral design. Sylvia also likes to ski.
