Cardinals host Blacksburg tonight in region football contest

In terms of season football records, Landrum, at a stronger-than-indicated 3-5 overall, and 1-2 in the region, doesn’t seem to match up well against Blacksburg (8-1, 3-0), whom the Cardinals host this Friday evening.

However, Landrum head coach Jason Farmer looks at the positive.

“We’ll have our hands full, but we’re excited to be playing them,” Farmer remarked.

With last week’s scheduled game against Pendleton moved back to Thursday, Nov. 3, at Landrum, Farmer’s Cardinals have had an extra week to practice, and to be as healthy as possible.

The Wildcats haven’t buried their opposition under an avalanche of scoring, but have employed great defense to win their eight games.

“They’re pretty good,” Farmer noted in a purposely-understated way. “They have a really good defensive lineman (Kwame Sutton, #99) and a really good linebacker (Alonso Davis, #25).”

Regardless of the Wildcats’ talent, Farmer knows it’s up to his players to play hard and not give away the ball.

“We’ve got to worry about ourselves.”

Opening kickoff of this region contest is set for 7:30. Tonight is also Senior Night, when all team seniors will be honored.
