Green Creek Hounds ready to hunt

Fall is around the corner and hunt season is cranking up in Polk County.
On Labor Day weekend Green Creek Hounds hosted a joint meet with Low Country Hunt, which included visitors from Why Worry Hounds from Aiken, S.C. and Live Oak Hunt from Monticello, Fla.
The hounds were not idle over the summer. They competed in four separate events. Green Creek started the competition season at the Sedgefield Performance Trial where hounds are judged strictly on hunting ability. Green Creek Gallahad, a young hound, managed to bring home the Reserve Champion award.
The Why Worry puppy show was a little different this year as Tot Goodwin was asked to judge rather than compete. It was a beautiful day at the home of George and Jeannie Thomas, Masters of the Why Worry Hunt. Six hunts competed in the pond side ring and enjoyed a picnic lunch. Tot Goodwin thoroughly enjoyed the day and found it gratifying to attend the next show and see his placings being repeated by other judges.
Green Creek competed this time at the Carolina Hound Show in Camden, S.C. and brought home multiple ribbons but yet again were upstaged by the junior handler class. Again, Green Creek’s Carolina Foster and her friend Sophie Mauldin from Low Country represented their hunts brilliantly.
Memorial Day weekend is always the Virginia Hound Show. So many people helped prepare the hounds this year and it really paid off. Mrs. Wood, Live Oak, has judged the Green Creek Hounds many times over the years and always commented on their healthy appearance, but this year added how well they were showing. Members who knew they would not be able to attend the competition still came out to lead, train and bathe hounds to get them ready. They were rewarded with silver and trophies in the un-entered single crossbred bitch, un-entered crossbred couples and un-entered single crossbred dog.
Now it is time for the hounds to put their noses to the ground and show some sport.
