Sharon Decker scheduled as guest speaker

The Tryon Downtown Development Association annual meeting will be held on Monday, June 27, 6 p.m., at Sunnydale. The entire Tryon community is invited to attend.

President Wanda May and Executive Director Jamie Carpenter will review the many successes TDDA has had over the past year and plans for the future. New officers and board members will be elected at this time. The special guest speaker will be Sharon Decker, chief operations officer for Tryon International Equestrian Center.

Highlights from the past year include hiring a full time executive director, Jamie Carpenter, who has increased TDDA’s presence in the community. TDDA has produced several successful events, including the annual favorites: Halloween Stroll, Tryon BeerFest, Christmas Stroll and Tryon Midnight. In addition, TDDA has introduced morning coffee and conversation meetups, and a well-attended design mixer, all with the purpose to educate and network.

The annual meeting falls the day after the first Farm to Trade Street dinner on Sunday, June 26.  TDDA and the Town of Tryon has worked diligently in 2016 to further establish and grow in an excellent relationship between TDDA, the Town of Tryon Mayor and Board of Commissioners, as well as town staff.

The TDDA board and membership is very grateful to the Polk County Community Foundation for an operating grant that has helped TDDA to fund an executive director. Without the sufficient funds provided by PCCF, the hiring of a director and the opening of an office would not have yet been possible. TDDA will continue to review and update plans for Tryon. Public input is always welcomed by the board and the executive director.

The social hour is from 6-7 p.m. The business meeting begins at 6:45 p.m. Please be considerate of local businesses when parking.

TDDA works to revitalize and preserve downtown Tryon through economic development, quality design and preserving the historic nature of downtown, and promotion of downtown. We do this through partnerships with businesses, local government and governing boards, and more.
