Polk softball team hosts two opponents this week

With a shutout over North Buncombe and a close loss to conference rival Madison, Polk County’s varsity softball team is 2-1 overall, and 0-1 in the Western Highlands Conference after last week’s play.
At Madison on March 11, the Patriots scored three in the home sixth to edge Polk, 5-4. The Wolverines had scored a pair of runs in the second, and single runs in the fifth and sixth. While outhitting the Patriots, 12 to 7, Polk committed a rare three errors to Madison’s one.
On March 9, at North Buncombe, the Wolverines surged ahead with four in the first, added two in the third, and a final run in the fifth, to defeat their hosts, 7-0.
Back home this week, Polk hosts Mountain Heritage this Tuesday afternoon. Varsity begins at 4 p.m. On Thursday, March 17, the Wolverines host the Asheville Trailblazers. Again, varsity begins at 4 p.m. The Wolverines are at Mitchell Friday.
