It’s Oz as you’ve never seen it, with a few familiar characters and many new ones. “The Patchwork Girl of Oz” takes us to a whole new world as part of the Super Saturday lineup on March 19.

 

The Los Angeles Dancers & Choreographers have adapted L. Frank Baum’s 1913 book of the same name, part of a long series that followed the success of “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.”

 

Ojo, a Munchkin boy, is on a mission to find a way to help his uncle come back to life after having been turned into a marble statue. The Patchwork Girl travels with Ojo, and along the way they learn about cooperation, friendship, respect for all life, and the importance of working together as part of a community.

 

The production features a multi-ethnic cast performing fantastical dances woven together with multimedia, music, and narration. Reviews have praised the show’s “jubilant dancing” and the music that is “an excellent combination of Eastern and Western influences.”
