Five members of the Green Creek Archery Club participated in the 2014 Outdoor Nationals which were held in Hamilton, Ohio from July 23-27. Participants were Josh Streacker, Phil Burney, Rick Burney, Jim Vennera, and Steve Burney.
Overall, it was a good weekend for the club and a great experience for our first time at the Outdoor Nationals. There were many Olympic team members from past Olympics, and several people we had shot with at other tournaments that we enjoyed seeing again. It was the most competitive event we have been to yet and the team was proud of what they accomplished.
Rick Burney came in 8th in the eliminations and tied for 9th in the shoot-off. Phil Burney came in 17th in the eliminations and tied for 9th in the shoot-off. Josh Streacker came in 17th in the elimination and 17th in the shoot-off. Jim Vennera came in 2nd in the standing para men’s recurve division winning a beautiful silver medal, and 64th in the overall senior men’s recurve division. He tied for 33rd in the shoot-off. Steve Burney came in 66th in the eliminations and just missed the cut-off to participate in the shoot-out.
The next tournament for the team is the 2nd Annual Green Creek Heritage Festival Tournament which is being held in conjunction with the Green Creek Heritage Festival on September 6.
The team welcomes new archers, the club meets at the field behind the Green Creek Community Center on Tuesday evenings at 7 p.m. for open shooting and Thursday evenings at 7 p.m. for the Junior Olympic Archery Development (JOAD) program where the kids are coached to improve their shooting and have the opportunity to win awards and recognition for their achievements in archery.
