If you like original rock music, plan on spending the evening of Saturday, Aug. 30 in Tryon’s Rogers Park. Tryon’s own 176 and Spartanburg’s The Antibodies (featuring guest dancers The Pulse) will be appearing in concert. The show starts at 7 p.m. The concert is free, but donations are appreciated.
176 was formed in June of 2013. The band features Ian Harrod on bass and vocals, Rich Nelson on guitar, keyboards and vocals, and Robbie Johnson on drums and vocals. They jelled very quickly and began playing their original music at local venues in Landrum, Tryon and Saluda. By autumn they had written about 15 songs and began recording in Nelson’s basement. They released their first record ‘Enjoy The Ride…’ in March 2014, and they have been playing shows to promote their first record and work out the new songs for their second record.
All three of the members of 176 have played with many other groups over the years and this band is an opportunity for them to do exactly what they want with the experience they have garnered in that time. “We’re very happy with the record,” says Nelson. “We tried to keep the energy and instrumentation we have when we play together live. It’s pretty easy to go berserk in the studio piling on instruments and overdubs. We don’t use any kind of click track or auto-tune. We’re just an honest rock band. Often all three of us are singing too, so we spend a good bit of time on vocal arrangements”.

“Since it’s formation in 1996, the Antibodies have formed a reputation as one of the Upstate’s most inventive bands, drawing from a wide range of influences. From surf to psychedelic rock to punk and country, they are known for producing unique performances,” said Dan Armonaitis.
The members are Mark Branyon, guitar, Tom Conder, vocals, Lee Holroyd (from Tryon) on drums and Kevin Jameson on bass. Their shows are energy driven and in this performance they will be joined by the Pulse; a four-woman dance team from Spartanburg. Peggy Magarahan, Jennifer Latto, Terri Burch and Lisa DeFreitas have been performing with the Antibodies since 2009 at festivals and venues that can accommodate them. The Pulse have a go-go girls look and add a Pulp Fiction feel to the music, with crafted dance moves that fit each song.
