Anyone who wishes to know how much work goes into putting on a theater production would do well to follow Grace Ingham around for a day. Tryon Little Theater and Tryon Youth Center are staging “Shrek the Musical” this summer, and according to Betty Brewer, producer, Grace Ingham has been indispensable helping wherever she can.
“She’s only thirteen, you know, but she’s taken on so much responsibility with this show,” says Brewer. “Most of the kids have multiple roles, but Grace plays five different characters. And if that isn’t enough, she’s on the painting committee and also on the costume committee.”
“I love all aspects of theater,” Ingham says, “so that’s why I paint, do costumes and do makeup too.” And “Shrek” isn’t just a regular musical. According to Ingham, “it tells you that it’s okay to be different and that everything will turn out great if you aren’t afraid to be you.”
Directed by Chris Tinkler with Musical Direction from Lena Duncan, “Shrek the Musical” opens July 10 for four performances only at the Tryon Fine Arts Center, 34 Melrose Ave. in Tryon. The box office opens July 30 at the Workshop. Call 828-859-2466 or visit www.tltinfo.org for more information.
