Local Saluda man walks for the March Against Fear 2014

“Sometimes I feel like Gandhi walking to the sea”, said Ray Pague from Saluda as he set out on a 260 mile walk to the state capitol in Raleigh with fellow activists on the March Against Fear in support of NC House Bill 1161 – “A Constitutional Amendment to Legalize Medical Marijuana”.
His use of the plant to treat his Post Traumatic Stress has been documented and verified in Oregon as qualifying for medical cannabis under their guidelines. “In Oregon I’m a legal patient with a right to a healing herb, but here in North Carolina I’m treated like a criminal.” HB 1161 was introduced by Rep.
Kelly Alexander (D-Mecklenburg) to allow voters to decide on legislation that has yet to get to committees and be heard on the floor of the NC legislature.
They started out in Asheville, determined to make North Carolina history.
