The Towns of Columbus and Tryon and City of Saluda will meet Tuesday, Oct. 1 to discuss potential shared topics.

The agenda is open to all topics but one could be any opportunity to share water systems. The meeting will be held at Columbus Town Hall at 7 p.m. The public is invited to attend.

The agenda includes only the topic of “discussion of potential joint projects.”

Tryon Town Council recently discussed the possibility of creating a water authority, which has been a topic of joint discussions in previous years.

Other topics that have surfaced recently are sharing signage for tourism and joining for economic development purposes.

The last time the towns met jointly was in March 2012 to approve an inter-local agreement to share ownership of a new waterline that connected Tryon and Saluda’s water systems and to place a valve on the existing Tryon and Columbus water connection so Columbus can send water to Tryon and Saluda. The towns joined years ago and with the help of a grant ran the waterline along Howard Gap Road to connect the system for backup purposes.

The towns have also met jointly in previous years with the Polk County Board of Commissioners, although Polk County will not be involved in Tuesday’s meeting.
