H.B. Swofford Career Center (SCC) in Inman plans to display students’ work in a first of its kind art show at the Chapman Cultural Center. The Industrial Arts Reception will be held on Thursday, Aug. 29 from 4 – 6 p.m.

The Industrial Arts Show features a first floor show concentrating on art through the programs, and second floor show concentrating on the processes used to make the art within each program.

Erin Curran, Challenge Course director at H.B. Swofford Career Center, said the program is thrilled to have the opportunity to show the exhibit at the cultural center so the community can see the caliber of work students produce.

“Through this industrial arts show the talent of the Swofford students is displayed because Swofford is a place where art and industry meet,” Curran said. “This artwork was not made for this art show, but instead is student work done in the course of their class … Swofford wants to display our student talent and the infusion of art into each and every one of our 15 offered programs.”

Pieces in the show were selected by instructors from classroom projects throughout the year. Among many showpieces, you will find three painted motorcycles and a rebuilt 1983 Jeep.

“(The Jeep) went from a 1983 piece of junk to a practically brand new Jeep,” said Scott Simpkins, director of Swofford. “The paint job is better than most cars today and “it truly is a showpiece.”
