Edwards wins TCC championship

Fred Edwards Jr. won his third consecutive Men’s Club championship at Tryon Country Club (TCC) recently, with scores of 67-73=140 over Benji McCall at 68-74=142.
Third place went to Tommy Gardner with a score of 70-75=145. Fourth place went to 14-year-old Will Ballard 70-78=148.
Edwards was also responsible for the course conditions as the club’s course superintendent.
This year’s event was the 69th club championship held at TCC. The championship has been held every year since 1939, excluding the war years of 1943,1944 and 1945.
In the First Flight, Steve Walker with 77-81=158 topped Craig Gillie with an 84-80=164.
In the Senior Men’s championship, Tyce Marshall edged out Gary Laughter by two strokes, 154 (76-78) to 156 (79-77)
In the Senior’s First Flight, Bill Kelly was first with scores of 89-83=172. Second went to Don Gardner with 94-93=187.
