Don’t miss the 14th Annual Green Creek Heritage Festival, which  will be held on Saturday, Sept. 8, from 9 until 3 p.m.. This year’s festival promises to be even bigger and better than ever. As usual, it will be held  at the Green Creek Community Center, formally the Green Creek High School. The  Community Center is located on Coxe Rd, across the street from the  Green Creek First Baptist Church. Every year, on the Saturday after Labor Day, many people spend the day at the community center. This year, for the first time, a 5K race and a meal has been added on the Thursday before the heritage festival.
On Thursday, Sept. 6, 2012, a Poor Man’s Supper (ham, beans, cornbread etc.) will be served from 5:30 until 8:30 p.m. Tickets may be purchased from any community center board member or by calling Krista Haynes at 828-817-0194.
Also on Thursday evening, Sept. 6, the Edge Of Polk 5K Cross Country Race will be held. This race will begin at the Green Creek Community Center at 7 p.m. Anyone wishing to participate in this race can pick up registration forms at Medicap Pharmacy in Columbus or at Tryon Health and Fitness Club in Tryon. Those participating in the race should bring their completed forms to the community center no later than 6:30 p.m.
Among the many activities on Saturday, Sept. 8, are the popular car and truck show, day-long music, a parade, crafts, a general store, demonstrations (including blacksmithing), animals, the Green Creek History Room and many more events and displays. The Green Creek History Room is located in the “classroom” building and includes hundreds of pictures and historical information about the Green Creek area, including Hillcrest Institute and Collinsville. The admission to this fabulous family event is free. Parking is also free and handicapped parking is available. Food and drinks are available for purchase. Thanks to the numerous volunteers that have made this wonderful festival possible every year since 1999. More volunteers are needed for this years festival. If you can help, please call Krista Haynes at 828-817-0194.  If you can’t volunteer, be sure to come, bring your family and friends and spend the day. You will be glad that you did!
