SUNNY VIEW—The Sunny View Clubhouse has become a vital resource for residents in the Sunny View area, serving as a central hub for various community assistance programs. It has initiated a range of new initiatives, including monthly food distributions, Hot Meal Thursdays, a supply closet, a free firewood bank, and exclusive storm repair assistance for residents, all designed to meet the community’s needs.
The new Caring Cupboard, an on-site food pantry that will provide supplemental food supplies to residents between regular distribution events, is soon to open. The Polk County Community Foundation has played an essential role in supporting the Clubhouse’s mission by funding two of these programs. The pantry will also feature a bulletin board listing additional local resources to assist community members further.
For over a decade, PCCF has been a steadfast supporter of The Clubhouse, most recently providing a grant to fund a much-needed new roof. Jessica Toney, Outreach Coordinator for the clubhouse, expressed gratitude for this support.
“The Clubhouse has worked for the past 14 years to meet the needs of the community,” said Toney. “Following Helene, these needs increased, making our work even more crucial. We cannot express enough gratitude to the Polk County Community Foundation for their ongoing support of our mission.”
The history of the Clubhouse dates back to the cooking classes and quilting groups started by Greek Underwood. Since the organization gained nonprofit status in 1962, it has evolved to host a diverse array of events, from birthday parties and family reunions to community meals.
The Clubhouse is dedicated to expanding its reach and continues to pursue multiple grants aimed at supporting even more programs in the future.
