TRYON— On Monday, June 2, Tryon welcomed its newest dining establishment, Don Bigotes 2, located at 526 S Trade St. at the former site of Mr. Juan’s. The opening was marked by a ribbon-cutting ceremony hosted by the Town of Tryon.
The building has undergone a complete transformation, with extensive renovations that reimagined not only the kitchen but also the dining area and outdoor patio. The remodeled bar enhances the festive atmosphere with colorful decor featuring Southwest-themed artwork adorning the freshly painted walls.
An exciting venture for the Chaverri family, Don Bigotes 2 is the second location for this family-owned business, following the success of Don Bigotes 1 in Spartanburg at 508 Springfield Rd. Elmo Chaverri, along with his sons Jorge, Homer, and Edgar, leads the team, which is supported by an experienced kitchen staff and attentive servers.
“We love what we’ve seen of Tryon. We’re glad to be here. It’s a tight, quiet community, and we look forward to getting to know everyone,” Homer said. “The owner of Mr. Juan’s is a friend of ours, and he was looking to downsize, and he offered to lease the building.”
The restaurant specializes in traditional Tex-Mex cuisine, offering a delightful menu that features familiar comfort foods, such as crunchy tacos, quesadillas, and burritos. Some highlights include the classic cheese dip and the guacamole, which are made fresh to order.
Nachos come loaded with toppings and options such as grilled meats and fajita-style versions, while street tacos are made with authentic fillings like steak, grilled chicken, and marinated pork. The menu also boasts the Bigotes Dip, which combines steak, grilled chicken, shrimp, and cheese, and the Big Dave Dip, which adds chorizo and sausage.
Don Bigotes 2 serves a wide variety of main courses, including seafood, grilled tilapia, and shrimp, prepared in multiple styles. Rib-eye steak and chicken are also featured in dishes like the El Molcajete and Carne Asada. Additionally, the restaurant has a dedicated section for kids, offering familiar favorites such as tacos, cheeseburgers, and chicken fingers, along with a selection of refreshing beverages, including traditional Mexican drinks.
Homer expressed a commitment to quality service. He proudly noted their high Yelp rating, one of the highest in South Carolina, indicating that the Spartanburg community has warmly embraced them.
“The biggest thing we want folks to know is that we are going to bring the same great service and experience to Tryon that we’ve brought to Spartanburg,” he said.
Don Bigotes 2 is open daily from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.; takeout orders can be placed via phone.
