LANDRUM—A new addition to the Landrum Farmers Market is Estela’s Cuban Empanadas, owned by Estela Clevinger of Inman. Estela began sharing her culinary creations with the community in April, inspired by her sister-in-law, Cosmic Candy owner Maria Early, who is also is a vendor at the market.
Empanadas are baked or fried pastry turnovers with various savory or sweet fillings, and Estela offers two flavors, chicken and beef. She also sells mini-flans, jalapeno poppers, and breakfast sandwiches, all of which are quick to sell out from her table.
The enthusiasm for Estela’s empanadas has been palpable. Initially, Estela prepared 25 empanadas each weekend; today, she brings 90 each week, and they are often sold out by 11 a.m. Customers even order flans and empanadas for events.

“I wondered if I brought them if they would sell, and I was surprised how quickly I sold out,” she said. “It’s been so popular. I cater to a loyal crowd that comes every week, and it’s not something they can just run down the street and get either.”
The Landrum Farmers Market not only showcases Estela’s culinary talents but also features a range of vendors, including fruits, vegetables, honey, jewelry, and more.
“Come on down to see me at the Landrum Market. We have everything there. We have fruits and vegetables, we have honey, we have encatas, we have jewelry, and most of all we have friendly people,” she said.
As word continues to spread about Estela’s Cuban Empanadas, it’s evident that the community has embraced this new venture, celebrating the flavors and connections that make the Landrum Market special.
Landrum Farmers Market is located at 221 W. Rutherford St. and open Saturdays from 8 a.m. to noon.
