MILL SPRING—On Monday, Tryon International announced that Sharon Decker, a key member of its leadership team, will take a temporary leave of absence to support Hurricane Helene recovery efforts in western North Carolina.
Governor Josh Stein’s GROW NC Team has contracted Decker to lead the development of a long-term economic revitalization plan for the region. She will advise the Governor, GROW NC, and the Department of Commerce while working with public, private, and nonprofit partners to shape a path forward.
“We fully support Sharon in this vital work to help rebuild Western North Carolina,” said Mark Bellissimo, Managing Partner of Tryon International. “She’s been instrumental to our success and is uniquely qualified to lead this important effort.”
Decker, honored with the NC Chamber’s Distinguished Citizenship Award in March 2025, emphasized the importance of community collaboration. “The devastation has been horrific, but the fortitude of Western North Carolinians is extraordinary,” she said. “We will come back stronger—with a plan rooted in action and unity.”
Tryon International leaders expressed pride in Decker’s service and dedication to the broader community.
“Sharon has always had a heart for this region,” said Doug Grondahl, COO. “While we’ll miss her daily presence, her leadership continues to shape our mission. She remains an integral part of the Tryon International family.”
In a press release, the organization said Decker’s leave will not affect its strategic direction, and her insights will remain influential in its continued growth and community engagement.
