19th annual event highlighting Green River held Saturday
SALUDA—The 19th annual Spring Green Bash, hosted by Green River Adventures, took place on Saturday, May 3, in downtown Saluda. From 5 to 9 p.m., the event featured vibrant live music from the Sun Sippers reggae band, craft tie-dye shirt-making sessions courtesy of Looking Glass Realty and Oskar Blues beer on tap.
The Bash also included a raffle for a Liquidlogic Torque kayak, with all proceeds benefiting the Green Riverkeeper program. Local sponsors such as Oskar Blues Brewery, WNCW, Mountain True, The Gorge Zipline, Big Adventures, and Liquid Logic Kayaks contributed to the event’s success.
Located at 150 East Main St., Green River Adventures is now gearing up for its 19th season, officially reopening to the public on May 1. Owner Tim Bell emphasized the importance of community engagement following the challenges faced over the past months, particularly after Hurricane Helene and recent wildfires.
“The Green River Bash is a great way for everyone to know we are open and also to thank the people of our community for all their support,” Bell said. “This is the right time for everyone to come together and showcase the community spirit we have here in Saluda.”
The event honored local firefighters’ unwavering support during recent disasters, and the proceeds went to Saluda Fire and Rescue.
Deputy Chief Zach Pace reflected on the recovery efforts. “It’s been a hard seven months since Hurricane Helene, and we strongly appreciate all the help and support we’ve received from the local community and those outside the area.”
Firefighter Ed Manny echoed the sentiment, calling the support they’ve received locally and from all over the country heartfelt.
Green River Adventures will offer a full lineup of activities this season, including half-day and full-day options like Big and Little Bradley waterfall rappels, the ever-popular Waterfall Trek, and the Classic Swimming Hole Hike. Additionally, the Riverside Outpost will continue providing self-guided inflatable kayak trips on the Lower Green River, alongside the introduction of a new family-friendly tubing adventure set for this spring.
The Green River, celebrated as one of the premier recreational rivers in the country, has undergone significant restoration efforts following damage from the hurricane and wildfires. Volunteers for Conserving Carolina and Mountain True were on hand and shared in the excitement.
