POLK COUNTY—This weekend, Polk County Farms officially launched the 2025 summer season for its farmers markets, with opening days on May 2 in Saluda and May 3 in Columbus.

Market visitors were treated to an array of food sourced from small farms alongside handmade goods crafted by local artisans. Dawn Jordan, Agricultural Economic Development Director for Polk County, expressed enthusiasm for their return.

“The farmers market in Columbus has been going strong for more than 20 years,” she stated. “This is our 21st year, and we’re really excited to be back on Courthouse Street after being away for seven months. When the storm hit in September, it knocked out our last month here, so returning feels great.”

Jordan noted that the vendors are eager to reconnect with customers in Columbus.

“We have some new vendors this year with truly amazing products. They’re very creative, and every week, even though I’m here every week for the whole market, I see something I haven’t seen before,” she said.

The Saluda market, now in its sixteenth year, also had a successful reopening.

“We love our location. We had some live music and a tasting there. The residents of Saluda were really happy to be back out at the market, and the weather was perfect,” Jordan added.

Kirsten Hatch of the Crafty Champster reflected the general excitement, saying, “It is a beautiful day, and it’s great to be back here.”

Diane Pack, owner of Wispy Garden Naturals, echoed this sentiment.

“We couldn’t ask for a better day to be back, and we hope to have a great day and season at the Market,” she said.

With over forty vendors, attendees can expect an enticing selection of fresh food items ranging from honey and eggs to vibrant flowers. They can also enjoy a variety of crafts, including woodworking, soap-making, and foraged herbal products. The markets are a perfect destination for those seeking a unique gift or wishing to support local artisans.

The Saluda Tailgate Market, located at 214 E. Main St., is open every Friday from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., while the Columbus Farmers Market is at 40 Courthouse St. on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. Both outdoor markets will operate weekly through October.
