LANDRUM—The Landrum Area Fire and Rescue District has once again earned the designation of a “Fire Safe South Carolina” community, joining 206 other fire departments across the state in this prestigious recognition.
Awarded by Fire Safe South Carolina, in collaboration with state and national fire service organizations, this designation reflects a department’s unwavering commitment to community risk reduction, public outreach, and the meticulous collection of data essential for shaping future safety strategies.
“Our team is proud to be recognized again as a Fire Safe SC community,” said Chief Warren Ashmore. “This honor reflects our department’s dedication to protecting lives and property, not just through emergency response, but by educating our residents and working to prevent emergencies before they happen.”
To achieve this designation, fire departments must complete specific training, thoroughly document public education initiatives, and collaborate with local organizations to address risk factors in their communities. Statewide, results from 2024 indicate that over 1.1 million South Carolinians reached through fire and life safety initiatives, representing a 70% increase from the previous year.
“This recognition is a testament to the strong relationship between our firefighters and the community,” said Pam Hilsman, chair of the district commission. “We’re grateful for the support of our residents and proud of our firefighters who go above and beyond to serve Landrum with excellence and care.”
The Landrum Area Fire and Rescue District will be formally honored for its achievements at the Fire Safe SC Award Ceremony on June 13 during the 2025 Fire-Rescue Conference in Myrtle Beach.
