POLK COUNTY—The sweet scent of petunias filled the hallways of Polk County High School on Monday as students honored a woman whose quiet generosity has blossomed throughout the school community for years.

April 15 served as “Bean Day” at Polk County High School, celebrating local philanthropist Brenda Bean, whose support has touched countless students and staff members.

“Brenda is a huge supporter of education and well-known in the Pea Ridge community. I can tell you firsthand that we have been in a few situations here at the school and she has been there to help us,” said Agricultural Education teacher Chauncey Barber.

To celebrate Bean’s contributions, students from the Horticulture 2 class presented every staff member with vibrant petunia hanging baskets they had grown in class.

While Bean finds joy tending her flower gardens and spending time with family, her greatest passion is nurturing the potential of young people.

“I love young people and just love what this school provides for these kids,” Bean said. “People here work so hard in preparing these students for the real world. I am truly honored and just glad that I can help out.”

Bean’s daughter, Michelle, has served PCHS as an English teacher and assistant principal before stepping into her current role as principal.
