Aspiring young authors spent a week this summer learning the craft of novel writing through an AIG Summer Seminars camp at the Polk County Public Library.

The So You Want to Write a Novel? camp was led by Jeanne Ferran, an Accelerated English Language Arts teacher at Polk County Middle School. Students participated in various writing exercises designed to develop their storytelling skills.

Camp activities included responding to writing prompts, participating in voice exercises through board game activities, and taking a sensory hike to inspire descriptive writing. Students also workshopped their pieces with visiting writers David Riddle and Storme Smith.

The program concluded with students sharing their work and pitching screenplays to their peers.

The camp was funded through a grant from the Polk County Community Foundation and held at the library’s Columbus location.
