Students at Tryon Elementary School recently explored the world of birds through a special STEAM elective program in partnership with Champions for Wildlife.

The Wild for Birds program, which ran during February and March, gave students hands-on experience with local avian species. Participants learned to identify different bird calls, examined authentic nests and feathers, and practiced species identification techniques.

The curriculum included lessons on avian classification and the ecological importance of birds in their natural habitats. As a culminating project, students created foil relief artwork depicting their favorite bird species to display at home.
