SALUDA—A presentation on the history of the Saluda Grade will take place at the Saluda Library on Tuesday, April 8, at 2 p.m. The history of the Grade spans from 1830 in Charleston, S.C., to 2001, with the last train up the hill.
This presentation by David O’Brien will address many of the important events that occurred during that period and several advancements in railroading that came from operation on the Grade. David became active in the Saluda Historic Depot and Museum in 2017 as a docent and is currently a member of their Board of Directors and the unofficial museum historian.
Participants can register for this event at conservingcarolina.org/calendar.
The Saluda Library Speaker Series is held on the second Tuesday of the month at 44 West Main Street. This program series began in 2024 with a grant from the Polk County Community Foundation and is now made possible by the continued partnership between Polk County Public Libraries and Conserving Carolina.
