Polk County put on an offensive clinic Thursday, overwhelming Asheville 16-0 in a non-conference matchup that ended after just three innings due to the run rule.

The Wolverines (5-5) wasted no time establishing control, erupting for 10 runs in the first inning and adding six more in the second to secure the win over the visiting Cougars (0-11).

Tory Coile started and earned the win, firing one-hitter with five strikeouts and just one walk in her three innings of work. Coile also contributed offensively, going 1-for-2 at the plate.

Junie Mitchell and Sarah Vitale led Polk County’s offense, each 2-for-3, with Mitchell also scoring twice. Mia Bradley went 1-for-1 with two runs scored, while Laney Littlefield, Emma Hayford, Kinsley Lancaster, Kinley Waters, and Aslyn Scruggs each added a hit to the Wolverines’ barrage.

The Wolverines will look to build on this momentum when they return to action on Tuesday, hosting Mountain Foothills 7 Conference rival Hendersonville at 4:30 p.m.
