Authorities say driver attempted to evade law enforcement
CAMPOBELLO—A Landrum man died early Wednesday morning in a single-vehicle accident that occurred in Gramling.
The Spartanburg County Coroner’s Office says Rickey Levi Hyder, 22, of Landrum, was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, at 12:02 a.m. on March 12, a 2005 Ford coupe was traveling west on U.S. Highway 176 near Big Mulberry Trace when law enforcement engaged in pursuit of the vehicle. Officials say the driver attempted to evade law enforcement and the vehicle went off the right side of the road, striking a power pole.
The accident is currently under investigation by the highway patrol and the coroner’s office.
