GREEN CREEK—The Polk County community came together on February 28 for a heartwarming and exhilarating event at The Sanctuary at Red Bell Run—the Special Olympics Polk County’s annual Polar Plunge.
With participants, many from Polk County Middle School and Polk County High School, braving the chilly waters in support of Special Olympics athletes, the event was a true celebration of inclusion, courage and community spirit.
Beyond the plunge itself, the day was filled with joy and excitement. The Special Athletes danced the day away to the music provided by Nikki Parker, whose lively tunes kept spirits high. A highlight of the event was the scenic hayride tour of the farm, where participants had the chance to see horses, donkeys and other beloved animals that call Red Bell Run home.
“A heartfelt thank you goes out to all the participants and volunteers who made this day possible,” said Jane Ollis, who coordinated the event. “The dedicated staff at Red Bell Run provided a beautiful and welcoming venue, ensuring that all attendees had a memorable experience.
“Special recognition is also extended to the Unified Champions from Polk County Middle School and Polk County High School, as well as the Polk County Sheriff’s Department, for their incredible support and enthusiasm.”
Ollis noted that due to the generosity and dedication of the community, this year’s event was an outstanding success.
