TRYON—Harmon Field has reopened to visitors with limited access, as firefighters and emergency personnel are no longer staging there. Officials temporarily closed the park to guests while it was used as a command center to combat the 3910 fire that started on U.S. Highway 176 Saturday.

As of Tuesday evening, the fire was 91% contained.

Due to the ongoing issue of violators crossing the orange fences at Harmon Field, the Tryon Police Department recently began issuing citations for individuals who cross behind them. Sections of Harmon Field have remained closed since Helene devastated the area.

“These fences are in place for visitors’ safety and to allow the crews to work expeditiously. They are diligently working to get areas of the park open to the public as quickly as possible,” Tryon Communications shared in a recent statement. “Tryon Police Department is still actively patrolling and enforcing this trespassing order.”

Officials also reminded visitors that the Harmon Field track will be closed from 9 a.m. to noon on Sunday, March 9.
