On Saturday, March 8, Tarheel Lanes in Hendersonville will host the annual Big Brothers Big Sisters of Polk County fundraiser, Bowl For Kids’ Sake, which helps them raise funds to mentor underserved youth in the community.
Bill Smith, a board member of BBBS, emphasized the significance of the event.
“Bowl For Kids’ Sake is not just about bowling,” said Smith. “It’s an essential fundraiser to pair kids with mentors who make a difference in their lives. The event merges community spirit, creativity, and a shared mission to help children thrive.”
This year’s theme, “Yabba Dabba Do,” invites participants to embrace their inner Stone Age spirit with imaginative prehistoric costumes. There will also be prizes for the best-dressed participants.
Once donations are secured, participants will gather at the bowling alley for a fun-filled day that includes two bowling games and lunch for their entire team. BBBS is reaching out to the community for support as they work with 45 underserved youth in the area, highlighting the critical need for financial assistance this year.
Local businesses and organizations have rallied to support this vital event. Among the local sponsors are Pure Country, AdventHealth, and the Polk County Sheriff’s Department. Other contributors include Stotts Ford, Tryon IGA, Tryon Presbyterian Church, Pacolet Baptist Church, and Steeplechase International.
Program Coordinator Jessica Spivey said, “This is the hardest year we’ve had trying to find a way forward for these 6 to 16-year-olds who are struggling with many issues.”
The council remains committed to helping these young individuals navigate the challenges of the current economic landscape.
Every penny raised through the event goes directly to support the kids in the BBBS program. Teams can enter the bowling event for $250 each, with additional contributions of any amount greatly appreciated.
Those interested in contributing can send donations to PO Box 1440, Tryon, NC.
