TRYON—Tryon Little Theater is presenting its latest production, “Gypsy: a Musical Fable,” at the Tryon Fine Arts Center. The show is opening on Friday, February 28.

Lyrics are by Stephen Sondheim, with music by Jule Styne, and book by Arthur Laurents. The show is directed by Laura Depta Peal, with musical direction from Pam McNeil.

A classic, considered by some to be one of the greatest of all American musicals, “Gypsy” is loosely based on the 1957 memoirs of striptease artist Gypsy Rose Lee. It tells the story of the efforts of one hungry powerhouse of a woman to get her two daughters into show business. It includes numerous standard songs like “Everything’s Coming Up Roses” and “Let Me Entertain You.” The talented cast of young and older actors brings the story to life as the audience follows them through the struggles and hardships to become famous.
