Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

In 2024 there were a plethora of amazing memoirs published – from famous entertainers (Billy Dee Williams, Rebel Wilson) to religious leaders (Pope Francis) to everyday people with a great story.

A memoir is usually more single-minded than an autobiography and typically concentrates on a certain time period or moment in time.

Polk County Libraries wants to help anyone who is ready to write their own memoir. Maybe there’s a part of your life that you want to dive into and tell others about, so here’s your chance.

The free Introduction to Memoir program takes place from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 6 in the Columbus Library Community Room.

The instructor will be Asheville-based writer and writing coach, Cornelia Dolian, who has led similar programs in a number of WNC libraries, all of which have been well-received. She will be covering a number of topics, including structuring and outlining a memoir, narrative and story structure, and turning an outline into a full manuscript first draft, among many other things.

The workshop will be hands-on, and will incorporate instruction, discussion, and prompted writing.

This program is geared toward adults and registration is required as space is limited. Email Allie Snyder, Program Coordinator for Polk County Libraries, at asnyder@polklibrary.ord by March 3 to register.
