POLK COUNTY—FEMA applications are being received daily from survivors who sustained losses because of Tropical Storm Helene, but time is running out to register.

FEMA representatives say more than 361 million dollars in financial assistance has been approved for 153,000 families in North Carolina. This includes money for rent, basic home repairs, and other disaster-related needs.

At the state of North Carolina’s request, Tropical Storm Helene survivors now have until March 8, 2025, to apply for FEMA assistance.

“We are still strongly encouraging survivors to apply for assistance as soon as possible,” said FEMA media relations specialist Trey Paul. “Stay in touch with FEMA, update your application, and let us know what your continuing needs are.”

Applicants may receive FEMA assistance by either visiting a FEMA Disaster Recovery Center, downloading the FEMA app, visiting DisasterAssistance.gov, or calling the FEMA helpline at 1-800-621-3362.
