EASLEY— An outdoor center in Easley, SC, is looking to help a Saluda business devastated by Tropical Storm Helene.
The Saluda Outdoor Center, located at 1307 Old Easley Highway, is hosting a Polar Plunge event on March 1 at its location on the Saluda River, with proceeds benefiting the struggling Green River Cove Tubing Co., which was washed away during the storm.
Evie Buisch of Saluda Outdoor Center emphasized the importance of Green River Tubing to the local community.
“Green River is a small, family-owned business and a cornerstone of outdoor fun in western North Carolina,” Buisch said. The Gillepsie family, who has operated Green River Cove Tubing for decades, were devastated by the storm and will not be able to open for the season. All proceeds will support Green River Cove Tubing during their rebuilding efforts.”
While Saluda Outdoor Center also experienced damage, Buisch remarked, “We had storm damage here but not nearly to the level they had. Even though we are competitors, we have developed a close relationship, recommending each other to visitors when one might be closed.”
Tickets for the polar plunge event are available for individuals and teams, and even those who prefer to stay dry but still want to contribute can purchase donation tickets online.
The event will feature s’mores, hot chocolate served by fire pits, and door prizes donated by local businesses. Buisch described the Saluda River as a “lazy river,” in contrast to the more adventurous nature of the Green River, appealing to a range of outdoor enthusiasts.
Tickets for the event are priced at $20 and can be purchased from the Saluda Outdoor Center’s website. The fun will take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., encouraging community members to jump in, cheer on participants, or donate to support Green River Tubing’s recovery.
