Polk 4×400 relay team earns trip to state meet at Winter Escapades

Polk County’s boys 4×400-meter relay team joined the list of qualifiers for the state indoor championship with its effort Saturday at the Polk County Winter Escapades meet.

A late addition to Polk County’s schedule, the Winter Escapades meet was held at both Tryon International Equestrian Center and the PCHS track. Athletes from 10 schools competed in the girls meet, with 12 schools taking part in the boys meet.

The Wolverine 4×4 team won the event with a time of 3:39.52, qualifying for next month’s state 1A/2A meet in Winston-Salem.

For the Polk girls, Karsyn Huskey set a personal record in the 1000-meter run, winning the event with a time of 3:08.58.

Leah Dotson took second in the pole vault with a leap of 7-6 that matched the state qualifying standard, while Louisa Wood placed second in the 500-meter dash with a mark of 1:27.97.

Polk County’s girls placed third behind T.C. Roberson and Pisgah, while the Wolverine boys placed fifth, with T.C. Roberson, Owen, Pisgah, and Enka taking the top four spots.

Polk County is slated to host the WNC Polar Bear Championships on Saturday.
