POLK COUNTY—The joy and holiday spirit of Christmas extended into the month of January for over 100 senior citizens as Unity in the Community recently held its 15th Annual Sharing in the Community Senior Citizens Christmas.
Purposely planned to take place after Christmas to avoid the regular hustle and bustle that typically comes with the holiday season, and to focus solely on seniors in Polk County and the surrounding areas.
Like the previous events, this event featured live music, good food, and free gifts for all attendees. A locally owned catering company, A Taste of Pea Ridge, provided a delicious meal, and their wait staff attended to guests’ every need.
Minister Carol Lowrance, of Charlotte (formerly of Tryon), was the special guest speaker, who spoke of wisdom and the important roles that seniors play in each of our lives. Other participants included Rev. Eleanor Miller, pastor of New Zion CME church, musical guest, Rev Nancy Petty, Pastor of White Hall Independent Methodist church, and Rev. Stencil Quarles, Pastor of Union Grove Missionary Baptist Church, who served as the Master of Ceremony for the evening.
This event was made possible by a generous grant from the Polk County Foundation.
