Polk pulls away to topple R-S Central

Polk County overcame a slow start Tuesday, pulling away to hand R-S Central a 67-35 setback in Mountain Foothills 7 Conference girls basketball action in Rutherfordton.
The Wolverines (11-1, 3-0) led just 15-14 midway through the second period before closing the quarter on a 10-1 run, building a 25-15 lead at halftime.
Polk then steadily extended the lead in the final two quarters in subduing the Hilltoppers (2-10, 1-2).
Bailey Staton led Polk County with 20 points, upping her career total to 1,162 and moving past Autumn Owen (1,148) into second place on the program’s career scoring list.
Kylie Lewis had 13 points and five rebounds while Kiera Littlejohn had 12 points and seven rebounds. Sofie Abrahamsen added seven points, with Reeve Carroll scoring four.
Charley Dusenbury added four points while Mia Bradley had three points and five rebounds. Amiyah Waters and Honesty Jackson each added two points.
With Friday’s game at Burns cancelled, Polk County will next be in action on January 14 at Chase.
