ATM vandalism in Columbus under investigation

COLUMBUS—On Thursday, December 16, deputies with the Columbus Police Department responded to a report of damage at the HomeTrust Bank ATM located at 686 West Mills Street. Upon arrival around 7:30 a.m., officers discovered that the ATM had been severely damaged during an attempted break-in.
According to police reports, video footage revealed that two individuals, dressed in disguises, attempted to breach the ATM at approximately 2:30 a.m. Despite their efforts, they were unsuccessful in obtaining any cash and left the premises.
The suspects fled the scene in a U-Haul box vehicle, which has since been identified through nearby FLOCK Cameras. Authorities confirmed that the U-Haul was reported stolen from Charlotte on December 14.
The Columbus Police Department is actively investigating the incident in collaboration with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, working diligently to identify the suspects involved.
Anyone with information regarding this incident or the suspects’ whereabouts is encouraged to contact local law enforcement. The investigation is ongoing as police aim to bring those responsible for the vandalism to justice.
