COLUMBUS—The 4-H program in Polk County recently announced the appointment of Jessica Jackson as the new 4-H Extension Agent and Caroline Adams as the 4-H Assistant. Jackson will replace long-time beloved 4-H Agent Mrs. Helen Blackwell, who passed away this year. A long-time resident of Polk County, she has stepped into her new role after serving as the 4-H assistant under Mrs. Helen.

“Many of you may know me from my time as the 4-H Assistant. I’ve seen firsthand how impactful this program is for our youth, and I’m grateful for the chance to continue that work,” she said.

After graduating from Clemson University, Jackson returned to her hometown to raise her family, which included her husband and young daughter. She expressed her eagerness to collaborate with the community to enhance the 4-H program, stating, “I’m thrilled to serve this community and look forward to working with all of you.”

Adams, a sophomore at Wofford College majoring in Environmental Studies and Government, hails from York, S.C.. During her first year of college, she held the position of South Carolina State FFA Vice President, and her experience teaching students about agriculture and leadership has prepared her well for her new role.

“I know how crucial programs like these can be for the youth, as I was a part of a similar one for most of my life. I am ecstatic to pay forward all of the help I was given when I was younger,” Adams said.

Both Jackson and Adams are gearing up for the upcoming spring classes.

“Registration will open in January, and we’ll send out a reminder at the beginning of the month with all the details. We have a range of exciting classes planned for kids aged 5-18, focusing on cooking, sewing, and even goat care,” Jackson noted.
