LANDRUM—At the annual Tree Lighting Ceremony on Friday, November 29, local pastor and PA announcer Rev. Jimmy “Hambone” Camp was honored with the Landrum Citizen of the Year title. This award is a testament to Hambone’s dedication and impactful contributions to the Landrum community.

As the newly appointed Citizen of the Year, Hambone will serve as the Grand Marshal for the Landrum Christmas Parade, scheduled for Thursday, December 5, at 6 p.m.

“Hambone is so deserving of this award,” said City of Landrum Marketing Director Tricia Taber. “We are honored to give him recognition. Hambone is such a pillar to the community, and Landrum is a brighter place because he’s in it.”

Known affectionately as Hambone, he has embodied the spirit of selflessness and compassion for decades. He is well-respected for his commitment to the spiritual well-being of his congregation and the wider community.

Hambone’s impact extends well beyond the church. He supports Landrum’s sports programs and has dedicated much of his time to coaching young athletes. His love for the youth of Landrum shines through in all he does, whether cheering from the announcer’s booth or offering support in challenging times.

Rev. Camp was surprised to receive the award.

“My family suggested, let’s go do this together this year,” he said. “I had no idea anything was going to happen.”

His commitment to service is also reflected in his volunteer work as a firefighter at the Landrum Fire Department for over thirty years. Despite health challenges, his spirit remains unbroken, and he consistently shares love and encouragement with everyone he meets.

“I want to thank the Lord most of all and the Town of Landrum,” Rev. Camp added. “This was not anything you’d expect. It was a big surprise.”

As a beloved figure in Landrum, Rev. Jimmy “Hambone” Camp has touched countless lives with his kindness and dedication. The Landrum community eagerly anticipates honoring Hambone during the upcoming Christmas Parade, a fitting tribute to a life devoted to serving others.
