Boot Scootin’ BBQ scheduled for November 16
POLK COUNTY—After Helene’s devastating impact, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Polk County has stepped up its efforts to support the community, engaging in cleanup activities and partnering with organizations like Steps of Hope and Thermal Belt Outreach.
Recently, volunteers from the organization dedicated their Saturday to assisting with cleanup efforts in Green River Cove, demonstrating their commitment to community service.
Big Brothers Big Sisters is hosting its annual fundraising event, the Boot Scootin’ BBQ, at the Greenlife Inn at Mimosa to support ongoing efforts. The event, scheduled for November 16 at 5 p.m., aims to raise crucial funds for the organization. Attendees can expect a lively evening featuring a silent auction and a performance by the Basement Bunch band.
Lelia Duncan, President & CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters, expressed heartfelt gratitude to supporters in a message shared before the event.
“More than ever, we are deeply grateful to have you with us. In the wake of the unimaginable loss caused by Hurricane Helene, your presence is a powerful testament to the resilience and compassion of this community,” she stated.
Duncan emphasized the importance of unity in difficult times, highlighting that the funds raised will sustain the mentoring relationships vital to the children served by the organization and directly assist those affected by the hurricane.
“Your participation not only helps sustain our mission but also contributes to relief efforts for our Littles and their families, many of whom are facing significant challenges in the aftermath of this storm,” Duncan added.
Through the generosity of donors and community members, Big Brothers Big Sisters aims to uplift those in need, offering hope and practical assistance as they work to rebuild lives in the aftermath of the hurricane. Duncan concluded her message by saying, “Though the road ahead may be uncertain, together, we are stronger. Together, we will rebuild and continue shaping a brighter future—one relationship, one family, one community at a time.”
The public is encouraged to attend the event, enjoy a special camaraderie-filled evening, and support this vital cause. Tickets will be for sale at the door.
