COLUMBUS—The Polk County Memorial Post 9116, Veterans of Foreign Wars, has announced a pair of Veterans Day ceremonies this year, marking an impressive 41 years of honoring local veterans.
The ceremonies will occur on Veterans Day, Monday, November 11, at 11 a.m., rain or shine, at Veterans Park in Columbus. The second ceremony will also be held at 3:30 p.m. at Veterans Park in Saluda
Unfortunately, the Veterans Day Parade in Columbus was canceled this year.
“We decided that due to the effects from Hurricane Helene, which disrupted the daily lives of many, it is unlikely we will have enough participants or spectators for a parade,” said the parade chairman, Post Commander David Collins. He also noted that the local high school band had canceled its planned appearance due to circumstances beyond their control.
In other recent news, on October 31, the two VFW Posts in Polk County, including Post 10349 and Post 9116, officially consolidated. The new combined entity, Womack-Bradley Polk County Memorial Post 9116, Veterans of Foreign Wars, held its inaugural meeting on October 15. The Post has since received its new charter, symbolizing a unified approach to supporting veterans in the community.
Community members are encouraged to attend these annual Veterans Day ceremonies as a demonstration of gratitude for the sacrifices made by our veterans and active service members.
