TRYON—The Creators Vault in downtown Tryon will host Arzell Thompson on November 16 from 4 to 8 p.m.
Thompson, a trailblazer as the first Black graphic illustrator in the United States in 1967, is a master fine artist, digital creative, and senior technical illustrator.
This event will feature a special presentation by Thompson, who will speak at 6 p.m. He will also have his artwork available for sale.
During the evening, Thompson will share insights about his renowned Albert Einstein paintings, which are part of the Princeton University collection, as well as his poignant portrait of former President Jimmy Carter, displayed in the Carter home. His work not only showcases his artistic prowess but also reflects significant cultural and historical narratives.
Symphony Akinloye, the CEO of Creators Vault and a senior at Spelman College, passionately believes in the importance of providing Black artists a platform to express their creativity.
“I love giving Black artists the opportunity to share their stories and connect with the community through their art,” she says.
In a spirit of giving back, a portion of the proceeds from the sale of Thompson’s paintings will support the Pea Ridge Partnership, a local 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded by Symphony Akinloye’s mother, Tanisha Twitty Akinloye. The mission of Pea Ridge Partnership is to educate, empower, and preserve the history of Pea Ridge and its surrounding areas of Polk County.
The Creators Vault is located at 25 S. Trade St. in Tryon. To learn more, visit thecreatorsvault.com.
