Financial, logistical challenges lead to decision, says TH&RC
TRYON—On Wednesday, August 14, Tryon Riding and Hunt club announced that they are suspending the running of the 2025 Block House Steeplechase.
TR&HC said in a social media post that it “believes that a reassessment of how the annual event is promoted and presented is required after facing many significant financial and logistical challenges.”
The board plans on implementing an analysis to evaluate the possibility of bringing back the race at a future date.
“We regret to announce the need to take this step, but with all our decisions, we must do what is in the best long-term interest of the club, the community and the sport,” said TR&HC President Angie Millon on Wednesday.
TR&HC has supported the Block House Steeplechase since its inception in 1947. Most recently, the organization partnered with Tryon International Equestrian Center to host the regional event.
Millon states that despite the best efforts by all parties involved, the event has not gained the necessary returns to ensure its ongoing success.
“The Block House Steeplechase is an enormous undertaking,” says Millon. “It demands tremendous oversight and execution, and those needs are expanding.”
Tryon Riding and Hunt Club thanked its loyal fans, volunteers, sponsors and TIEC, and said that it is proud to have hosted the event for the past 76 years.
