TRYON—At the town council meeting on Tuesday, August 6, Adam Scott Holt was sworn in as the Tryon Police Department’s chief of police. The appointment comes after a seven-month tenure as interim chief following Randall Hodge’s resignation on December 1.
“I think he’s going to do a great job,” said Mayor Alan Peoples. “We put a lot of effort into finding the right person, and he has done a wonderful job in his time as interim chief.”
Chief Holt brings a wealth of experience to the position with over twenty years in law enforcement. His career began as a Polk County deputy reserve officer before transitioning to a full-time role as a PCSO deputy in July of 2005.
During his tenure with Polk County Sheriff’s Office, Holt was promoted to patrol sergeant and later to patrol captain. He then ventured into private security before joining the Tryon Police Department as a sergeant in November 2020. His dedication and proficiency led to his promotion to the rank of captain in November 2022.
Chief Holt expressed his gratitude, stating, “I’ve been doing the job for seven months now, and I appreciate the opportunity I’ve been given, as well as the citizens and Town of Tryon for being so supportive of law enforcement.”
At the meeting, the Tryon Board of Commissioners also recognized Wanda May for her induction into the Second Wind Hall of Fame in honor of her contributions to the Tryon Downtown Development Association and the Planning Commission. The council also approved a new mural on the side of the Livery on Pacolet St. and a landscape design plan for the embankment downtown next to the clock tower.
