Polk County Schools’ PEAK After School Program has received a Cohort 17 Nita M. Lowey 21st Century Community Learning Centers grant, which will allow it to expand in the 2024-25 academic year.

PEAK After School is a comprehensive initiative designed to support students from 4-year-old preschoolers—effective August 31—through 12th grade at all district schools, including students at Polk County Early College. The program is dedicated to fostering academic success, community/character-building skills, and overall well-being for students.

With the support of the 21st CCLC grant, PEAK After School is poised to make a substantial impact on the educational experience of Polk County students. The program’s comprehensive approach ensures that students receive not only academic support but also opportunities for personal growth and development.

“We are incredibly happy to receive this grant, which allows us to serve more families in Polk County,” said Tiffany Dennis, PEAK After School program director. “Our goal is to create a nurturing environment where every child can reach their full potential, and this grant brings us one step closer to achieving that.”

PEAK After School will operate on school days starting August 19. The elementary and middle school sites will be open until 6 p.m., with students given a snack, time for academic growth, enrichment activities, and student-led initiatives. The high school site will be open Monday through Thursday until 5:30 p.m. and will feature unique offerings such as esports and theater in addition to academic tutoring and enrichment.
